Jack's Sleeping Positions

Jack likes to sleep all over the car porch that has been at his disposal.....

Of course, he also has his big crate to hide inside too.....

Jack likes to sleep near the main door and he can somehow curl up the door mat and sleeps amongst our slippers......

I saw Jack sleeping with his back against the wall but then the next minute, he turned his body around with much ease and faced the wall instead...ha...ha.....

Jack sleeping in front of the main door but we saw his claw caught in his collar a few times, as highlighted in the red circle.

Apparently, he does not mind it and can easily get it out from the collar......ha....ha...

Jack, you are a funny Beagle...but we love you anyway..!

Auto-Feeder Survived

Hi,

After a week of locking down the auto-feeder, it seems to work so far though I caught Jack trying to open it up and dragging it out of its place.

I gave him a good scolding and pushed him away once so I think he more or less got the message.

But as you can see in the photo below, he has scratched the plastic covering the auto-feeder.

I need to replace the plastic bag and find a better way to hold it down.

Auto-Feeder Locked Down

Hi,

I have to do something to prevent Jack from tearing my auto-feeder apart overnight for his food inside it.

I wrapped a plastic bag and tied some string around the auto-feeder and tied it to a hook on the wall as I do not want Jack to drag the auto-feeder to the gate and I may lose it....




So that's how I tried to lock down the auto-feeder.

Well, it worked last night .......

And guess what happened in the morning...?

I found Jack hiding in his crate when I came out to check the auto-feeder....

Why?
You can see Jack's nose in the middle hole of the crate.....ha...ha......

I think he must have felt guilty as he did tried to push the auto-feeder and it was out of its original position.... he must be scared of being beaten on his backside again or scolded by me...ha...ha...


I also only put food into one tray now so as not to tempt him to break into the auto-feeder as I think he can smell the food inside it....


Well, let see how long this will work.....ha...ha....

Auto-Feeder Forced Open

Jack is getting out of hand as he forced open the auto-feeder and ate up the next few meals in the tray....sigh



Greedy dog....!

Naughty dog too...!

He did it twice over 2 consecutive nights ....sneaky old dog....!

But say that he is smart too as I put 4 tapes to hold the cover down and he managed to figure out how to remove the tapes after a few attempts...!

Jack, what am I going to do with you...?

No treats for a day as I am so mad with him today.

He could have spoilt the expensive auto-feeder.


He also pushed it out of the gate and it could have been removed by passer-bys or the garbage collector thinking it is meant for disposal......sigh

The purpose of the auto-feeder was to feed him around 7am so that he will not bark for his meal and wake up the neighbourhood.

Also, if we are out in the evening ...so he can still get his meal at 7pm.

Jack, you better behave or else......

Jack Shedding Hair

Jack has been shedding a lot of hair lately.....

While I was away for a week, my son called me to inform me that he is shedding a lot of hair especially at his hind legs near his buttocks.

My first reaction was is there any exposure of skin and was it reddish or sore...?

No exposed skin or soreness.....!

Thanks God,....so I told him to wait for my return home.

Jack does shed quite a bit of his hair but I think no one has brushed his coat so his loose hair became more evident and caused unnecessary alarm.

Also, I wonder whether the current hot spell of weather could have caused more shedding than usual.

Anyway, I brushed his coat upon my return home and did it for a few days consecutively and he is back to normal.....

Video on Jack's New Auto-feeder

Here is the video taken recently....




Jack is a very smart beagle as he figured out on how to open the lid or cover and I have to re-inforce it by putting some tape to hold the lid to the feeder. I also have to train Jack not to bite the lid too....!

So we can now sleep in a bit and not worry about our neighbours complaining about his barking early in the mornings.

My only compliant about this feeder is the difficulty in setting the schedule or timing to release the tray of food and there are only 3 trays that I can put in the food. Apparently, the timer stops after the 3 trays have been released and I have to reset the timer again......sigh

Otherwise, it is working fine and better than the first feeder I bought.

New Dog Food Auto-feeder

The old auto-feeder somehow broke and the food did not come out at the schedule time.

So we are back to waking up early to feed Jack before his barking wakes up the whole neighbourhood.....sigh

He only started barking a couple of years ago.....not sure why?

Did my housekeeper forget to feed him, I wonder?

Anyway, we bought another simpler auto-feeder and I am trying it out to ensure that it is properly set up.

Here is a photo of Jack waiting for his meal.... he actually scratched the cover but I managed to get him to settle down and wait for his food.

I put 2 pieces of heavy duty tape to keep the main cover on the feeder bowl...ha...ha....

Hope it will work well and Jack will accept it too....

Jack Recovered From His Operation

Jack has healed properly now and hair has grown over his surgery wound.

As a precaution, we have fenced up the garden area to prevent him from eating grass and possibly Mum's plants like hibiscus, and also sleeping at his sandy patch below the palm tree when he got all the sand into his mouth.

Poor Jack, I think he misses his favourite sandy patch the most.

He is back to his normal self and has not slowed down or shows any effect from the operation.

Glad to have him as active as before...... old man Jack!

That's what we call him as he is a 12 years old Beagle!

Jack' Barking For His Food

Jack likes to bark for his food especially in the morning.

He used to bark around 6am but since after his recent operation, he barks after 7am.

My housekeeper has gone back to Philippines for good and we have no intention to employ another one so the feeding is up to me now.

Initially, we bought an auto-feeder ( read my early postings on it ) but since he is recovering from his operation, I give Jack soft food rather than dry food so I stopped using the auto-feeder.

So no sleeping in beyond 7am else Jack will wake up the whole neighbourhood especially on weekends.......sigh

However, Jack forgot to bark for his food this morning but I woke up worrying what wrong with him....ha...ha....

Somehow he must have lost track of time as it rained early this morning and I found him in his usual corner.

Good Boy....Jack!

Jack Operation Wound

Jack is recovering well but his operation wound with its stitches have dried up and slowly falling off.

The hair has not grown back yet ...... you can see the shaven tummy in the photo above.

The wound is healing well but sometimes the flies get attracted to it and I have to smacked them but they come back again and again......

Jack Is Recovering Now

I went to fetch Jack home late this morning.

The Vet showed me his x-ray and there was a big mass shown in Jack's tummy.

It turned out to be grass, hair and sand all stuck together to form a big lump...!

In the Invoice, there was a note saying that Jack should be confine and not able to ingest more sand, grasses and hair during his recovery period...!

Jack is still blur and weak so he is home and sleeping it off. Drank a lot of water but still not eating yet.

My son, Jason, commented that this is the first time we see Jack not eating and not yearning for any treat..... so pitiful......Jack must really be down and out.....!

We have to keep his wound dry so we put a T-shirt on him again.

Well, we look forward to his speedy recovery.......

I have to figure out how to confine him and not let him into the garden.......

Jack Is Sick Again

Hi,

Jack was not his usual self after dinner last night.

He was walking slowly and could not lie down at all.

HE even refused his treats....!
NO barking at all too...!

We were concerned and called the the hotline for his Vet. After talking to him and describing the symptoms of JAck, he felt that it is not life threatening and to bring Jack in to the clinic the folloiwng morning if no improvement.

We felt slightly better but it was so painful to see Jack standing the whole night with such a pitiful look. He even went to his favourite corner below the palm tree in the garden after the rain stopped.........sob...sob.....

I woke up at 6am to see if he could eat his food but he was not interested at all and still the same as the night before.

I took him to the Vet but have to wait for > 1 hour as we did not have an appointment....sigh

The vet suspect something wrong with his tummy and suggested to take a blood test and also x-ray his tummy. I have to sign a form to allow them to operate if there is a need.

After lunch, the Vet called to update us that there seems to be something opaque shown in the x-ray and they have to operate to remove it;......maybe plastic object...?

After dinner, the clinic called to inform us that Jack has a successful operation and I can collect him late tomorrow morning.

The Vet will talk to me then..... I am dying to know what Jack ate.....?

I wish for a speedy recovery for Jack and back to good health again.
