Jack & Ruby Separation

Hi,

I have made a bigger dog pen for Ruby so as to isolate her from Jack since she last attacked Jack, read my earlier postings.

Jack is allowed to roam free though since he was our first dog and given his seniority; 12 years old now.

But he is also chained occasionally when we have guests or expecting Jason's tutor in the evening as we are concerned that they open the gate too wide and Jack will make a go for it....naughty old man!




With this arrangement, we have to take Ruby out for a short walk to pee; 3 times a day. But we also take Jack out too so that he will not be jealous about it.













Ruby is enjoying her nap..... while Jack is looking inside the house and hoping to get some snacks or treats......ha...ha....

Annual Vaccinations For Jack & Ruby

Hi,

Jack & Ruby were taken to the vet for their annual vaccinations recently.

Ruby was placed in front with me and Jack was given the back seat with my housekeeper, Jean.

Unfortunately, I have muzzled Ruby to prevent her from starting a fight with Jack in the car.

At the same time, the vet also took a look at Jack's wounds and they are recovering very well.

I believe in having Jack and Ruby vaccinated yearly and dewormed.

Some dog owners do not do it as they try to cut cost but it is not advisable as it may not only harm your pets but you too, indirectly.

Dog Muzzle For Ruby

Hi,

I bought a dog muzzle for Ruby to prevent her from biting Jack; just to try it out to see if I can let two of them get together again.




After putting the muzzle onto Ruby's face, she seems so demoralised and looked so sad; staring at the ground as in shame.

So I decide not to use it except as a from of punishment if I catch her doing something wrong.

I used it the other day when I have to take both Jack and Ruby to the vet in the car.

I could not afford to have them fighting in the car!

Ruby Having Her Breakfast

Hi,

Here is a photo of Ruby eating her morning meal of dry dog food in our kitchen area.

She sleeps in a crate kept in the kitchen area at the back of the house.

So we will let her out and feed her first thing in the morning before we bring her to the car porch where she has her own dog pen.

Ruby Drinking Water

Hi,

Ruby does not drink much water and it is quite difficult to catch her doing it too, as such.

But I happen to have my mobile with me and I got a photo of Ruby drinking water, finally!

Jack drinks a lot and the whole bowl of water at one go too!

Special Treat For Jack

Hi,

Saw this chewy bone that comes with a piece of rawhide inside it; just ideal for Jack.

Jack can chew such bone easily but not Ruby.

Jack Drinking From His New Water Bowl

Hi,

I bought this new water bowl for Jack as he drinks a lot and this bowl will allow a 1 litre bottle full with water to sort of replenish the water as he drinks from it.

Neat gadget, see the video below.



The weather is so hot these days so this water bowl is really handy.

I also installed a fan on top of the shoe rack and switch it on in the afternoon to cool Jack and Ruby a bit too.

Ham Bone Treats

Hi,

I bought 2 pieces of half Ham Bone for Jack and Ruby. I used to buy the raw knuckle bones and cooked them myself but I thought I will give this a try.

I found that they dogs seems to have a hard time chewing them and the bones were pretty hard to chew.

As usual, Jack has stronger and bigger teeth so he has lesser problem with it.

I think I will stick to cooking the raw knuckle bones myself.

Ruby & Her New Dog Pen

Hi,

Ruby has gotten used to her dog pen and we have taken her out for more short walks to let her pee.

The morning sun shone into her pen so we use the Jack's big dog house to give her some shade for that hour or so.

We tied Ruby to a tree opposite our house so that we could wash her pen. It was shady and she enjoys it too. We can easily see each other so she did not mind.

Jack's Wounds Recovered

Hi,

It has been almost two weeks since I last updated Jack's wounds progress.





I am glad to say that they are totally healed and the hairs are growing back but to be on the safer side, I still tied Jack up during the day so that he will not rub that part of the body when he goes around his favourite spot at the base of the palm tree.

During the night, I let him go free as he will stay within the car porch area.

If there are flies disturbing his wound area, I may put the singlet on again or kill the flies depending on the situation and the hot weather.

Jack's Wounds Healing Well

Hi,

I am glad to tell you that Jack's wounds are healing well but he is still wearing a singlet to keep the flies away and also to prevent him from scratching his wounds.

He is still tied up during the day only so as to prevent him from going to his favourite spot at the base of the palm tree or moving in-between the potted plants in the garden.

I am planning to take him back to the vet next week for his annual vaccinations and follow-up on his wounds.

New Dog Pen For Ruby

Hi,

To separate Ruby from Jack, I have bought 4 pieces of metallic fence and construct them in such a manner that Ruby now has a bigger dog pen.

I do not want to chain her and besides, she still managed to bit Jack so it is not working.

At least, she has more space and not chained.....and her own private space.

We are saying that she now has her own suite or palace and she seem contented.





We still walk her and let her out to pee 3-4 times a day.

When I brushed her teeth in the afternoon, I would go into her pen and do it and spend some time with her.

I hope I can find her a new home though where she will be the only pet dog and have the whole garden to herself.
